IAG Cargo

IAG Cargo is a familiar name across many airline pet travel policies, having decades of experience in animal transport. In fact, they’ve been doing it since the 1950’s! As the cargo arm of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and Vueling, any pet cats and dogs flying as manifest cargo with these airlines will be handled by IAG Cargo. That is, except pets flying from the UK, as due to a partnership with Pet Air UK, IAG Cargo appoints Pet Air UK for all animals flying from the UK. But, if you’re flying a pet to the UK as cargo, they’ll instead travel with IAG Cargo. If you’ve transported your pet with IAG Cargo, remember to leave a review! Not only does IAG Cargo courier pets to and from the aircraft hold, but they also do what they can to rescue animals in dangerous situations. For instance, they’ve transported endangered species, and dogs destined for meat farms in Asia. Following a dramatic rescue operation by the Humane Society International (HSI), in which 170 dogs were rescued, IAG Cargo transported 13 of the rescue dogs to the UK so that they could have the happy lives that they all deserve.

IAG Cargo Pet Travel Policy

Run by a dedicated team of skilled and passionate animal handlers, pet safety and wellbeing is a priority for IAG Cargo. When your pet is flying using IAG Cargo to transport them, a ‘last on, first off’ policy is used to ensure minimum noise and disruption for your cat or dog. So, they will only be loaded to the aircraft hold once all passengers are seated, and upon arrival at your destination, they will be disem-bark before anyone else!

IAG Cargo Conditions of Carriage

As well as adhering to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations, IAG Cargo also has the following conditions of travel for pets:

  • Minimum requirement for cats departing from the USA and Canada only is a 200 kennel (200 series kennel = L27″ x W20″ x H19″, L68cm x W50cm x H48cm). For all other countries, series 100 kennels are acceptable.
  • The minimum requirement for snub-nosed dogs and cats is a 10% larger container than the minimum.
  • The container must be strong enough to protect your pet during transport, be secure enough to contain it and have sufficient ventilation on all four sides, to ensure the air quality in the container will not deteriorate.
  • The door must be secured in such a manner that it will not open accidentally or your pet cannot open it during handling and transport.
  • Your pet’s nose and paws should not be able to fit through any ventilation opening or door mesh.
  • The container must have a water pot accessible from the outside. The water pot must be secured and in proportion to the size of the pet but not take up too much of the floor space.
  • Fibreboard, wire mesh and wicker containers are not suitable for air transportation.
  • These dimensions are the minimum internal dimensions, please allow extra room if you’re placing a blanket or bedding in the kennel. Pets must be able to stand and sit erect without touching the top of the kennel and turn around comfortably.

Note that if your pet cat or dog is flying as cargo with Aer Lingus, British Airways or Iberia, you must also adhere to these additional IAG Cargo requirements.

Always remember to protect your cat or dog when travelling to a foreign country, and leave a review if you fly your pet with IAG Cargo!
