Eurotunnel Le Shuttle

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle offers pet friendly travel between England and France, enabling you to easily travel across The Channel. Having transported over a whopping 3 million pets since 2000, you can be sure your cat or dog will be safe riding alongside you in your vehicle on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle service. Whether you’re transporting your cat, dog, or other animal, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle welcomes you to travel together with your furry, scaled or feathered companion! Not to be confused with the Eurostar London foot passenger trains that only permit authorised Assistance & Service Dogs to travel, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle accepts many different types of pets. This includes cats, dogs, birds, fish and rabbits, with prices starting at £22 each way for pets travelling through the Eurotunnel. Some animals, as well as Assistance & Service Dogs are invited to travel on Le Shuttle free of charge. You must travel in a vehicle on Le Shuttle for the 35 minute crossing between Folkestone, England and Calais, France. It’s probably quicker than a taxi to your local city centre on a Saturday night!

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Pet Travel Policy

You can book your vehicle, passengers and pet on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle website. The service operates 365 days of the year, so you won’t be short on choice!

At the pet reception centre, staff will check the pet passport, ensuring the rabies vaccination is up to date and that your pet has received a Tapeworm Treatment within the appropriate timescales if you’re travelling to the UK. The Eurotunnel Le Shuttle staff will also scan your dog, cat or ferret’s Microchip. Then you’re leaving on a pet train!

The Shuttle depots in Folkestone and Calais include pet exercise areas with artificial grass, and poop bags are even thrown in for free!

Cost of taking a pet on Eurotunnel Le Shuttle

Prices start at £22 per pet, per Eurotunnel crossing for cats and dogs, but the following animals are permitted to travel for free:

  • Rabbits
  • Rodents
  • Birds (not including racing pigeons, birds of prey or poultry)
  • Invertebrates, tropical fish, amphibians and reptiles

Five pets per person can travel on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, and all animals require a Rabies Vaccination, except reptiles, amphibians and fish.

As you can’t enter the UK with a pet in the cabin, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is an excellent option for traveling to Scotland, England & Wales and France.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Policy for Assistance & Service Dogs

Trained and registered Assistance & Service Dogs are welcome on board Le Shuttle free of charge. You must present the appropriate documentation to staff, and your dog must be identified as a Guide or Assistance Dog. This includes Psychiatric Service Dogs that are professionally trained to assist you.

As Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) aren’t professionally trained, they are subject to the standard Eurotunnel Le Shuttle pet policy.

If you don’t have a vehicle to board Le Shuttle

There are times when you don’t have your own transport, and in this case, you can opt to use a taxi service to take you aboard Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. For example, Folkestone Taxis offers this service, and we used them to travel from Calais to London with our dog. They collected us at Calais train station, and delivered us to London Kings Cross station to catch the Caledonia Sleeper Train to Scotland, with no fuss and an excellent service.
