The Adventures of Django and Arya

Ryanair

The Ryanair pet policy for 2024 doesn’t allow dogs, cats or any other animal on board to travel in the cabin or the hold of the plane. Registered Assistance or Service dogs are allowed on board most Ryanair flights, but you can’t take your dog on certain routes. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) aren’t recognised by Ryanair. If you’ve flown with an Assistance Dog with Ryanair, you can leave a review to let other pet travellers know what you think. As Ryanair doesn’t allow pet dogs or cats to travel in the cabin or in the hold, check out the pet policy for a different airline. If you’re looking to transport an animal from the UK (Scotland, England, Northern Ireland or Wales) in the cabin or hold, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa and Tap Air Portugal offer these options. Leave a review if you’ve flown your Assistance or Service Dog with Ryanair! Read on for full details of the Ryanair pet policy 2024.

Ryanair Pet Policy 2024

Ryanair Assistance & Service Dog Policy and Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)

To be accepted on a Ryanair flight, an Assistance or Service Dog must be trained to perform a specific task, or tasks, for the benefit of an individual with a disability (physical, sensory or psychiatric). Note that dogs are the only animals permitted for transport with Ryanair.

Your dog must be certified by an organisation that is a full member of either:

  • Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or
  • Assistance Dogs UK or
  • International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF)

Therefore, a fully trained and registered Psychiatric Service Dog is welcome on board under the Ryanair pet travel policy, but an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) isn’t accepted. Your Assistance or Service dog must wear a standard identifying jacket or harness throughout the journey, and travel in the aircraft cabin sitting on the floor at your feet.

A maximum of four Assistance and Service Dogs are permitted per flight. Your dog along with their containers and food are carried free of charge.

Remember to advise Ryanair that you are taking your Assistance Dog on board. This can be done online or via the Ryanair Special Assistance Line, which aids with animal transport.

A suitable harness, provided by you, must be attached to your own seat belt or to the seat belt buckle. It also must be utilised to provide your Assistance Dog with an effective level of restraint during take off, landing and turbulence. However, the Ryaniar pet policy also allows for an alternative device to be used provided that it adequately secures your Assistance Dog.
