The FRS Ferries pet friendly travel policy 2024 enables pets to sail with their owners between, and within, Spain and Africa. FRS Ferries welcomes dogs & cats, as well as many other animals, provided that certain requirements are met. Qualified Assistance & Service Dogs are permitted to access the FRS Ferries passenger cabins, while other pets must remain in their travel carrier. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) aren’t able to travel under the FRS Ferries Assistance Dog policy. FRS Ferries Permitted Pet Species
Each passenger can travel with a maximum of 5 pets with FRS Ferries, unless you have proof that your pets are competing in a competition. You can take any of the following species on board:
- dogs
- cats
- ferrets
- invertebrates
- ornamental aquatic animals
- amphibians
- reptiles
- birds
- rodents
- rabbits
FRS Ferries Pet Rules by Weight
Pets that weigh less than 6kg can travel in the passenger areas, inside a carrier which must be carried by you. If you don’t have a travel carrier, you’ll have to pre-book an onboard pet kennel for the crossing.
Pets that weigh more than 6kg can travel in the authorised luggage area and/or the terrace within their travel carrier. If you don’t have a travel carrier, you’ll have to pre-book an onboard pet kennel for the crossing.
FRS Conditions of Carriage
The following conditions of travel must also be met on all FRS Ferries crossings with pets:
- Your pet must travel in a secure, solidly constructed pet carrier, and remain in the carrier for the duration of the crossing.
- If you’re travelling on FRS Ferries with a dog, they must wear a leash and muzzle when embarking and disembarking the vessel.
- Pets can travel inside your vehicle provided that you sign a disclaimer.
- You must book your pet either online or by telephone before you travel.
- Documentation may be requested at the time of boarding, so you may be asked to show your pet’s vaccination card, official ID document, certificate of good health and boarding card.
Pets travelling on Ceuta – Algeciras crossings with FRS Ferries

Prices start at €32 each way for adult passengers, and if you travel with a pet in their own carrier they sail free of charge.

FRS Ferries Policy for Assistance & Service Dogs
Professionally trained and registered Assistance & Service Dogs can freely access passenger facilities at no additional cost. They must remain at your side for the duration of the crossing, and have to wear a muzzle and leash. Psychiatric Service Dogs can travel, but Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are subject to the standard FRS Ferries pet policy.
Size and weight restrictions don’t apply to Assistance & Service Dogs, who are also permitted free access to the private cabins.
You must indicate that you will be travelling with an Assistance or Service Dog at the time of booking.
