Sun Country

The Sun Country pet policy for 2023 includes options for flying with dogs and cats in the cabin, but not in the hold. Details of the Sun Country pet travel policy for international and transatlantic flights with your cat or dog are included. Any dog or cat travelling in the cabin must be at least 10 weeks old. When flying with your pet in the cabin with Sun Country, your cat or dog must be able to move around within their carrier, and they have to travel with an adult passenger. The price for flying your pet in the Sun Country cabin is a flat rate. Also note that Sun Country pet travel rules do not permit cats or dogs on all flights, or to specific international destinations. Certain dog breeds are not permitted to travel in the cabin, regardless of their weight. Assistance & Service dogs fly for free, but Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are subject to the standard Sun Country pet travel policy. You can check out reviews for Sun Country Airlines by fellow pet travellers, or leave a review if you’ve flown your cat or dog with Sun Country!

Sun Country Pet Policy 2023

Does Sun Country allow cats & dogs to fly in the cabin?

Dogs and cats in the cabin are accepted by Sun Country in their travel bag, as long as they’re small enough to sit under the seat in front of you. The pet carrier must:

  • Be for one pet only
  • Be hard or soft sided
  • Have a leak-proof bottom
  • Be well ventilated
  • Fit under the seat in front of you
  • Be a maximum of 16 x 10 ix 8 inches

The pet in cabin service only applies to small pets, and is only available on flights within the 48 contiguous United States in America. Therefore Sun Country doesn’t accept pets for travel to Alaska or Hawaii. A maximum of 4 pets are allowed per flight, and only 1 pet per passenger.

Sun Country will not accept any animals that they believe may pose safety or health concerns to other passengers. Snakes, other reptiles, ferrets, rodents, and spiders are not allowed to fly in the cabin.

Sun Country pet in cabin price

If the reservation for your pet is made in advance, the fee is $75 per flight. At the check-in desk, the fee is $100 per flight, provided that there’s space on the aircraft. Fees are non-refundable.

Does Sun Country allow cats and dogs in the hold?

Cats, dogs, and any other animals, aren’t allowed to travel in the hold as checked baggage on Sun Country flights.

Sun Country Policy for Assistance & Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)

Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are no longer approved for travel under US Assistance & Service Dog Rules rules, and are therefore subject to the standard Sun Country pet travel policy.

Only qualified Assistance & Service Dogs, that have been professionally trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of their owner, are allowed to travel in the cabin for free, and without the restrictions of the standard Sun Country pet policy. As Psychiatric Service Dogs have been trained to perform a specific task, they are welcome to fly under the Assistance & Service Dog policy.

If you’re travelling outside the US with an Assistance or Service Dog, remember to check the requirements of your destination country.

Always protect your pet against vector-borne diseases in a foreign place, and remember to leave a review if you fly your pet with Sun Country Airlines!
